Yogafort Inclusivity

A Fall 2019 DLab Case Study

The Inclusive Yoga DLab team focused on Yogafort, a branch of Treefort that provides yoga classes. The Yogafort founders approached the team in hopes of making the festival more inclusive.

To solve this problem, the Yogafort DLab team decided to incorporate the voices of those who feel left out. They developed the following How Might We question: “How might we make Yogafort more inclusive, knowing that people who practice yoga often fit a certain stereotype, and that there is a lack of instructors and advertisements including unique demographics?”

The team did a lot of empathy work with community members to find a beneficial solution. The team eventually decided to host an inclusive class in January, prior to Treefort, catered toward unique groups. The class will provide the necessary props, such as mats, straps, and blocks, as well as qualified instructors skilled in working with people who have disabilities. The Yogafort DLab team is optimistic that the class will encourage participants to practice yoga and healthy living, as well as build confidence in the inclusivity of Yogafort.
