Learning at One Stone is both rigorous and vigorous

By Michael Reagan, One Stone Lab School Director

Whether students are engaging in interdisciplinary learning experiences alongside real-world partners and subject experts or in more structured workshops, One Stone provides students with the opportunity to explore areas of interest and curiosity while also meeting requirements for college and career readiness. Each year, students help brainstorm, plan, and sometimes help lead a diverse offering of fun, engaging, challenging, and relevant learning opportunities.

One Stone High School Diploma Requirements

Each year, One Stone’s catalogue of offerings is designed to meet the current needs, goals, and abilities of our students, while equipping them for life after graduation.

Although the One Stone’s student-driven and competency-based approaches to learning are innovative and interdisciplinary, a One Stone diploma represents a well-balanced transcript in the following traditional academic fields:

  • English Language Arts

  • Reading

  • Applied Mathematics

  • Science

  • Social Science

  • Computer Science, Technology, & Engineering

  • Entrepreneurship (Hatch)

  • Experiential Service & Community Leadership (Project Good)

  • Business & Marketing (Two Birds)

Additionally, students also engage in internships or passion-related Summer Experiences and self-exploration activities during Winter Exploration, helping them find purpose and direction in college and career. Students also complete multiple Design Lab projects using design thinking, a human-centered problem solving process created at Stanford’s d.school.

Each term, a student and their mentor design and build a schedule that allows the student to pursue their passions, curiosities, and post-graduation goals, while also meeting the graduation requirements depending on whether the student is engaging in One Stone’s 4-year, 3-year, or 2-year program.
