With the city at maximum capacity for electric scooters (e-scooters), their full force is becoming more and visible in the city around us. While they’re sustainable and sleek, they often clog public sidewalks. They’re a potential solution to Boise’s lack of public transportation options and a boon for environmentally friendly policy, but they’re also a bother for business owners and a wheelchair accessibility issue.
Focusing in on parking as the major issue, the team looked at analogous inspiration in Santa Monica’s e-scooter parking corrals, which are just like car parking on the side of the street. Based on that, the team prototyped designs for designated parking spaces, which juicers and chargers from Bird, Lime, and Spin would use for morning drop-offs. The team passed along a written proposal, as well as the best prototypes, to the City of Boise Comprehensive Planning Department for implementation.
