The Art Against Vandalism Design Lab team is passionate about identifying the cause of the vandalism in downtown Boise, how public art might play a role in reducing vandalism, and the effect vandalism has on business owners in the area.

Vandalism, which makes businesses look less professional and gets people in trouble, is something the Boise Police Department has been struggling with. As recently as October 2019, there were cases of people vandalizing a local business and a church. Artists of all kinds need opportunities to put their art up and practice their art without damaging buildings or businesses.

After observing that public art is not often vandalized in Boise, this team is asking the question, “Does public art reduce vandalism in Boise?” Their next steps include interviewing artists, business owners, and the Boise Police Department to learn more about the issue and gain important insights.
