Details:
One Stone’s innovative initiatives grew out of the desire to help students use their voice to change the world. At the starting line for One Stone is Project Good. Project Good is a student-led and -directed experiential service program that provides an opportunity for a direct connection and benefit to the recipient and the opportunity for a life-changing experience for the student. In Project Good, we use design thinking to develop human-centered projects and programs to tackle complex community challenges. The process helps students build effective solutions and programs, rooted in empathy, to address the challenges they take on. By following this process, we ensure creative and innovative outcomes that truly serve the needs identified by our community partners. Our program staff, together with volunteer adult community coaches, help guide the students through the process, ensuring students fulfill leadership roles. Through this approach, projects develop in meaningful and authentic ways that provide an enriching experience for the One Stone student as well as the end user.

Course participants engage with online learning modules hosted by Journey.do, a web and app-based learning platform developed by Arizona State University. While the asynchronous work is completed independently, each online module includes required opportunities for feedback and reflection with other course participants.
Once enrolled, each participant is paired with a One Stone mentor/coach to support their learning journey. One Stone mentors provide feedback on and publish participant’s module work, track participants’ progress, and are available via email and the Journey.do platform for questions. Mentors also host drop-in virtual office hours 1-2 times per month for synchronous conversations (other times available by request.)
All growth series participants are also invited to monthly one hour virtual round table discussions. Round table discussion themes vary each month and reflect the interests of current participants. Discussion topics include competency-based learning and assessment, student case studies, transformative coaching, real-world learning, student-driven learning, experiential service, human-centered design, and more.
