This course is for you if…

  • You are, or are interested in, implementing student-driven learning and Living in Beta in your classroom, organization, community, or school.

  • You want to inspire authentic real-world learning and empower learners to pursue their passions, discover their purpose, and live and learn with intention.

  • You require a flexible, self-paced, asynchronous learning model

Self-paced wayfinders engage with online learning modules hosted by Journey.do, a web and app-based learning platform developed by Arizona State University. While the asynchronous work is completed independently, each online module includes required opportunities for feedback and reflection with other Wayfinding mentors.

Each wayfinding participant is paired with a certified mentor/coach to support their wayfinding journey. Wayfinding mentors provide feedback on and publish participant’s module work, track participants’ progress, and are available via email and the Journey.do platform for questions. Wayfinding mentors also host drop-in virtual office hours 1-2 times per month for synchronous conversations (other times available by request.) Participants seeking Wayfinding certification are required to attend a minimum of one office hour visit with their wayfinding mentor.

All growth series participants are invited to monthly one hour virtual round table discussions. Round table discussion themes vary each month and reflect the interests of current participants. Discussion topics include competency-based learning, student case studies, transformative coaching, real-world learning, student-driven learning, experiential service, and more. Participants seeking Wayfinding certification are required to attend a minimum of three round table discussions.

To be certified as a Wayfinding mentor, participants must:

  • Complete all online learning modules in Journey.do within 12 months of account activation. Module completion includes connecting with (by commenting on) a minimum of one module story, completing all module reflection “grows”, uploading any/all required learning artifacts, and publishing a module story.

  • Attend a minimum of three round table discussions during their 12 month enrollment.

  • Attend a minimum of one office hour visit with their wayfinding mentor during their 12 month enrollment..

  • Complete the Wayfinding Mentorship Reflection Form.

To aid in implementation of the Living in Beta (LIB) program, certified mentors are awarded access to the digital Living in Beta Playbook and Living in Beta Learning Map. The Playbook provides mentors with an overview of LIB learning experiences that are mapped to the Exploration, Discovery, Purpose, and Self-Actualization stages, including links to student-facing digital resources. The Living in Beta Learning Map links the core LIB learning experiences to all four LIB stages and to One Stone’s Bold Learning Objectives, CASEL competencies, and Beta (extension) Activities. Coming for the 2023-24 school year, certified mentors will also be able to subscribe to student-facing Living in Beta learning modules on Journey.do (see Living in Beta for Middle and High School Students for more information.)
