This learning model is ideal for innovative schools and organizations looking to create a feedback-rich environment that empowers students to develop rich 21st century competencies and dispositions.

THE BLOB

One Stone’s Bold Learning Objectives, or BLOB, focuses on four key areas of learning: mindset, creativity, skills, and knowledge. Each area includes cognitive and non-cognitive competencies and dispositions and is supported by research-based learning objectives and criteria for mastery. Through their work in relevant, real-world experiences, students develop the social and emotional skills necessary for a growth mindset; they learn how to approach challenges and solve complex problems creatively; and they gain professional skills required of leaders who pursue their passions with confidence and purpose.


GROWTH TRANSCRIPT

The One Stone Growth Transcript is a tool that students and coaches use to measure growth in each area of the BLOB, identify areas of strength and future growth, and set personalized goals for learning. When a student demonstrates proficiency in each of the 32 learning objectives of the BLOB, they are equipped with a toolkit for life, indicating college and career readiness.

The BLOB and Growth Transcript served as a scaffolding for me to explore what I find to be valuable. This isn’t to say that before One Stone I didn’t have a desire to grow as a human being, develop these soft skills, or to do good in the world. I knew I valued the principles on the BLOB, but felt constrained because soft skills and growth were an afterthought to getting the grades I thought I needed to “achieve” in order to be successful. The BLOB and Growth Transcript not only validate, but encourage growth that can’t be achieved through reading a textbook alone. Now, I approach life with an entirely different mentality.

ASSESSMENT

A student’s total body of work is assessed using One Stone’s Bold Learning Objectives (BLOB) and the One Stone Growth Transcript. Growth and learning across a variety of real-world contexts are validated through One Stone’s learning model, creating a feedback-rich environment that empowers students to develop rich 21st century competencies and dispositions. Assessment at One Stone is rigorous and formative and includes data taken from performance-based evaluations, peer-to-peer reviews, self-evaluations, coach observations and written feedback. Assessment practices measure competencies and growth over time in traditional disciplinary areas (Knowledge), as well as social-emotional development (Mindset), real-world problem solving using human centered design (Creativity), and professional habits of work (Skills).
