A Maker Studio

WHERE IDEAS TAKE SHAPE

One Stone’s maker studio, the Foundry, is a place of transformation. Where basic materials become something new – whether that’s something that solves a problem, makes life easier, or makes the world around us a little more beautiful. It’s a place where ideas come to life.

The Foundry is equipped with a CNC router, laser engraver and 3D printer, as well as welding and woodworking tools. This maker studio fosters creative confidence and technical skills through digital design and technology.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO MAKE?

In addition to the many Lab51 experiences available to One Stone students, as well as Foundry-related initiatives led by students in Project Good, Two Birds, and Hatch (formerly Solution Lab), the Foundry offers several after school opportunities and Open Foundry times for high schoolers across the Treasure Valley.

Project Pitch

One Stone Learner Jadon Chen:

“One of my close friends, Dylan Baker, and I decided to pursue (our passion). We prepared a pitch to explain our interest in knife making to leaders around One Stone.”

Knives?

At One Stone?

Jeff Roelke, One Stone Coach & Foundry manager:

“When I first heard about knife making at One Stone, I wasn’t sure what to think. Was it legal? Was it safe? It became clear to me that this was not only something they were passionate about, it was exactly what we’d been asking them to do at One Stone. This is the definition of student leadership.”

Forging Ahead

Jadon Chen:

“After explaining our intentions, we were given approval to design and create knives in the Foundry, One Stone’s makerspace. The experience of advocating for myself was incredibly impactful for me, because it was the first time in my school career where I was actually listened to by educators.

I felt in control of my life for the first time.”
