Details:

One Stone’s Living in Beta is an innovative wayfinding program designed to empower learners to explore their passions and discover their purpose, while equipping them with the tools to live and learn with intention. Through engagement in scaffolded wayfinding activities and close supportive mentorship, students design experiences that bring relevance and meaning, as well as a greater sense of ownership, to their learning. These transformative experiences empower learners to develop a greater sense of identity, belonging, purpose, and direction as they test and iterate upon their passions, explore their personal values, and discover their purpose, or “why.” While mentoring students through the Living in Beta journey does not require any specific disciplinary expertise or skills, it does require a mentor mindset that empowers student-driven learning — moving away from practices where the teacher delivers content, designs experiences, and assesses outcomes.

The Living in Beta program has four stages: Exploration, Discovery, Purpose, and Self-Actualization. The Level I Wayfinding Mentorship Program equips teachers, advisors, coaches, and student leaders with the tools they need to effectively mentor learners in the first stage of the Living in Beta program, Exploration. As a cohort, we engage in rich reflective discussions, learn by doing, and share stories of transformation as we embark on a journey to become inspirational guides in our students’ learning journey.

Participants will be able to . . .

  • Develop a mentor mindset

  • Acquire tools to inspire curiosity and engage students in authentic learning experiences

  • Curate strategies to empower student ownership of learning

  • Gain tools to guide students through the Exploration stage of the Living in Beta program

This course is for you if . . .

  • You are interested in implementing student-driven learning in your classroom, organization, community, or school

  • You want to inspire authentic learning and empower learners to pursue their passions

  • You are interested in implementing/coaching Living in Beta at your organization

This course uses a hybrid program model, blending asynchronous online learning and synchronous virtual group meetings. Eight online learning modules are hosted by Journey.do, a web and app-based learning platform developed by Arizona State University. While the asynchronous work is completed independently, each online module includes essential opportunities for feedback and collaboration with other Wayfinding mentors. A 45-minute orientation and three 90-minute synchronous virtual sessions are time for collaboration, digging deeper, and learning from each other. The complete Wayfinding Mentorship Level I program includes approximately 20 hours of professional growth engagement. To be certified in Wayfinding Mentorship and receive the Living in Beta Playbook, Learning Map, and access to the subscription-based student-facing Journey.do modules, wayfinders must complete both Wayfinding Mentorship Level I and Level II.
