Details:

Learning happens anywhere, anytime, but not all learning is meaningful. To be impactful, learning must have relevance. Existentially, learning must be relevant to learners' identity and values. Experientially, learners must be empowered to engage their talents in learning experiences that allow them to discover more about their passions and purpose. Through mentorship and intentionally designed experiences, such as passion projects, internships, job shadows, experiential service, and other vehicles for real-world learning, students are empowered to engage their talents and experience through learning that is relevant and meaningful to them and their communities.

Participants will be able to . . .

  • Develop a mentor mindset

  • Acquire tools to inspire curiosity and engage students in authentic, student-driven, real-world learning experiences

  • Curate strategies to empower student ownership of learning

This course is for you if . . .

  • You are interested in implementing student-driven learning in your classroom, organization, community, or school

  • You are working to connect learning and the real world

  • You want to inspire authentic learning and empower learners to pursue their passions

  • You are eager to unleash the creative passions of your students

Course participants engage with online learning modules hosted by Journey.do, a web and app-based learning platform developed by Arizona State University. While the asynchronous work is completed independently, each online module includes required opportunities for feedback and reflection with other course participants.

Once enrolled, each participant is paired with a One Stone mentor/coach to support their learning journey. One Stone mentors provide feedback on and publish participant’s module work, track participants’ progress, and are available via email and the Journey.do platform for questions. Mentors also host drop-in virtual office hours 1-2 times per month for synchronous conversations (other times available by request.)

All growth series participants are also invited to monthly one hour virtual round table discussions. Round table discussion themes vary each month and reflect the interests of current participants. Discussion topics include competency-based learning and assessment, student case studies, transformative coaching, real-world learning, student-driven learning, experiential service, human-centered design, and more.
